Planned to meet up with P to go Ikea this morning. However, something came up for her at the last minute, and I was all ready by 8.20am, with a rumbling tummy, so decided to try out this porridge stall in Chinatown, which I would have to pass by, on the way to Alexandra. It's very famous and always crowded. But too embarrassed to whip out the camera, hehe, so took photos with mobile phone instead which explains why the photos are very small. :P It's really cute the way they serve it with a pair of chopsticks, but there are many varieties of porridge to choose from, and the chopsticks will come in handy for some. They also sell raw fish salad which goes very well with a steaming bowl of porridge. I also saw some pigs' intestines stew which looked nice on the photo but I can't eat innards.
Love the chunky bits of century egg in my minced meat porridge.
This coffee shop can be found on the corner of Keong Saik Street facing main Chinatown, right beside CK Departmental Store. Sorry I do not have the exact address. The name of the stall is Tiong Shian Porridge.
I also managed to snap some photos of Chinese New Year decorations and some foodstuff. Love all the red. So auspicious-looking. It's really weird, though, that although we're welcoming the Year of the Rat, that Mickey and Co are involved in the celebrations. All the hanging decorations for the home are designed with Mickey in mind. Also, what does Pooh, Tigger, and the Ducks got to do with it? Haha. I wonder if royalty has to be paid to Disney to use these characters.
Ooo... yummy bakes.
Love the colours at this stall which is there every new year.

wowo!! Disney also got invitation for CNY,ar??...I can't wait to get some bite for CNY cookies, especially Kuih Kapit and Lien Koh!!
i think because Mickey is a mouse mah, and mouse = rat, thus M.I.C.K.E.Y. is involved loh...and mickey kenot stand alone mah, else it would be very lonely, thus the whole gang-bang also appeared lah..hahahh...
Oh god! Thts so funny! I can't help laughing@ E pic of pooh holding tht dragon thingy. Pooh and dragon dance? Now we ve to change his name to Tan wi-nnie aka Winnie Tan! Hehe! If I was E 1 doing all E decos, all these cartoons wld be in cheongsams/qipao!!
speaking of which- CNY!!! MAN! I miss Chinatown. Look at the festive feel of it!
Looking at all the CNY Festive Goodies makes me a little homesick, especially when CNY here is so quiet - the only consolation is that I'll be in S'pore in April, would be lovely to meet you and Princess! I've been really busy lately, on top of the fact that it's the school holidays and I'm 'utilised to the max.' Please give Princess a belated Birthday hug and kiss for me xo
Wah...so festive and auspiciously red, I love it!! Oh man, I want the kuih kapit too!
trevshanhann - Haha, ya. Take her to Chinatown. You should get some hanging decor from pasar malam type stalls or anywhere now also selling them.
beachlover - Ya, hehe. What is kueh kapit? You'll be going m'sia for CNY ya?
hk choo - Haha, ya I know Mickey = mouse = rat. But still, I don't think they paid royalty. You think Singapore will get fined by Disney? Hahaha.
maya - Hehe, it is, isn't it? Lol! Trust you to think of Tan Winnie. Hahaha. Eh, but they are dressed in Chinese outfits lah. Only not in qipao lah. Modern ones. But pluto and the ducks aren't haha.
daphne - Yes, I love to go Chinatown this time of year.
ohfortheloveoffood! - Oh dear me. Poor Carol. Are you Singaporean? I thought only Ming was. Oh wow, yay, was wondering when you will be back this year. Hope Daphne is back too. Hehe. Great to meet all the ppl from Perth. Yes, yes, let me know when you be back. Oh gosh, tell me about school hols. Haha. I don't even like going out to the malls when it's holidays! Thanks for your wishes, will let her know.
little corner of mine - Oh yes, do you have a Chinatown there? Does it get fetive-looking? Probably not. What is kuah kapit?
