Scones for Breakfast

Was very tempted by the scones Little Corner of Mine made a couple of days' back. I love anything that is super easy to do, one bowl kind of thing, not having to wash up tons of stuff. And so, I decided to make them seeing that the recipe was rather straightforward. Woke up pretty early this morning even though princess wasn't going to school, as my intention was to make the scones for breakfast before her ballet class. Her teacher's assistant is doing her practical exams and as part of the exams, she has to conduct a class before the examiner who will then grade her. So we skipped school today to form a class with 5 other girls and they had loads of fun. All of those who participated were given little goody bags in appreciation of their help; filled with Smarties, jelly babies, a notebook and a pencil. How sweet of these teachers.

The scones are really good. I love the almond flavour in them. Try it. It takes very little effort yet are delicious! However, not sure of the temperature of my oven, I put them in at 218-220deg C but found it to be too hot. Of course I didn't have the time to sit in front of it while it was baking so in 11mins they became really brown on top due to the sugar. I quickly turned it down a little to approx 200deg and let it slowly bake for another 6-8mins. Lovely, gorgeous scones. We had to put them in bags to eat on the way as we were running late. It was lovely and warm and I believe that's the best way to eat them. ;)

It didn't yield a lot. 10 pieces according to how I cut them and only 2 small pieces are left now. Hubby had some too. Princess wants me to bake more for after her swim class when they have a little 'picnic', but I'm too tired now. I will most definitely bake them again, very soon. :)

For lunch, we ate at Sakae Sushi, and this is one dish I've recently discovered which I love. It's Curry Udon with a choice of chicken or beef. Slurp!

I love the golden brown color of your scones, gorgeous! Mine was too pale. :P I actually separated mine into pieces to bake, perhaps this help in cooking the scones faster? Oh man, I'm salivating by just looking at your scones. I want some RIGHT NOW!

rita - Hey, try this. Not sure if it will please your palate, but it's so easy and even if don't like, not a lot of money wasted as it's basically flour, sugar, baking powder. Try and see if you like. It's so easy won't waste loads of time in preparing. You can use as a base for other flavours.

daphne - Hehe, ya warm is best. When it's cold, it's not so great but maybe cos mine was baked a little long. Oh wow, so second person who loves Jap curry. Actually I never liked it. But you know how your tastebuds change over time? Well, I do like it now and this was something I discovered by chance. The picture in the menu didn't do it justice but I tried it anyway and was rewarded. :)

little corner of mine - You really like it? Hehe, thanks. I like your pale ones haha! Ya, I wasn't sure if you separated them to bake, but you're right. It does make a difference. Will do that next time. Was in a rush didn't bother looking for the cutter or would have made them round.

peony - Thanks dear. I know. I didn't have time to make nice nice. They still taste the same only a bit more trouble cooking.

alexander - Thank you. Yes, I don't know if they have this is Japan or whether it is catered to our local tastebuds.

alex - Sorry, I meant 'in' Japan. Well, how to describe the taste? You've never tried Japanese curry? It's almost starchy kind of texture, not spicy, and well, doesn't very much taste like our kind of curry. It can be a little sweet. You either like it or you don't.

sweet jasmine - Hehe, ya, I got it from her. Are you infected by the scones bug yet? ;) Oh ya the curry udon was a pretty big portion. It can be shared. I couldn't finish it. Ok, will check the tag but these days I don't have much time to do tags or awards even. Please excuse me if I don't do it. ;)

I cut it into wedges and separated the wedges to bake. I don't bother with the cookie cutter now.

little corner of mine - Yes. I will cut mine up and separate them next time. :) Speaking of which, I might just pick up a bottle of cream today to bake more. Hehe.
