Pasta & Pudding

Last weekend, I opened this packet of smoked salmon and together with the scallops leftover from bbq, made a pasta dish. The salmon was a gift from Uncle Joe n Aunt Nana when they were over for dinner during the Chinese New Year. It was brought back from Canada. And I loved it. The usual smoked salmon I know is almost raw-like but this one is a texture I've not tasted before. It's flaky and it had a lovely smoked flavour.

The second thing I made was sago pudding using Daphne's recipe. I had come across these green pandan sago pearls in the supermarket a while back. It was actually princess who pointed them out to me. She wanted to buy them. I thought I could make a pudding with them and remembered Daphne having made something like that. I decided I should make them for a 'working mums meeting' with the ballet teacher. It was to discuss a funfair that we are organising. It was going to be a potluck thing so I thought it'd be a lovely dessert to bring. Unfortunately it didn't make it there. :( Firstly I had forgotten to get the coconut milk, then after cooking the sugar, found that there was a little bee or something inside. Was disgusting with the little wings floating around. It most definitely was from within the gula melaka. I was too tired to go out to the supermarket to get them so I abandoned the idea. Meanwhile the pudding sat in the fridge and by the time I had a chance to make the syrup etc, some of the tops of the pudding had dried up. But they were still edible. I love this recipe. Thanks Daphne. I also love the overall colour. Reminds me of chendol.

somehow...i could not grow to love smoked salmon...although i tried the ones from good restaurants...and i still failed to appreciate it...hmm maybe i have to accept the fact that i am just smoked salmon intolerant

the green sago pearl looks adorable, and i too find nasty things embedded in my palm sugar (gula melaka, gula jawa?) pieces sometimes hehehe

I have never seen a dessert like that before. I don't know what the main ingredient is that you are talking about, but it looks VERY interesting!
Pasta looks yummy, too.
Canadian smoked salmon is very good. If you want more, I can mail you some!

Just looked up sago. I THOUGHT it looked like tapioca, and apparently it is very similar in texture, but made with different raw ingredients. Tapioca pudding is one of my favourites... sure I would love yours, too!

I do like the current look. Very sweet and refreshing. Personally I like the pink but yellow works too!!!

That pasta of yours look really good. I'm hungry now and it's only 8:45am! yikes. And I like the idea of using the cups for the sago pudding.

The bee thing was digusting though... I hope that doesn't happen again.

rita - Actually I prefer fresh salmon. ;) Oh really? Gosh that's disgusting finding stuff in the gula. Yucks!

sweet jasmine - Thanks. :) I know... smoked salmon is expensive here too. But I like sashimi better. Ah wow, the great chef made some pudding too. :) Ya, I happen to chance upon the green pearls too.

jori - Hahaha, your thoughts are appreciated. I can get them here no need to mail them hahaha. Oh good you googled sago pearls. They are little round things smaller than rice grains and are tasteless basically. The syrup and coconut is to flavour it. :) Haha, come and visit us in Singapore. I'll make you some.

paw paw - Eh! Where have you been?? MIA so long. Thanks. I love the new look too. :) Haha, me not the one who did it or I would help you but yours is nice already. Hehe, the 'chendol' is yummy esp the coconut layer. ;)

little corner of mine - Thanks C. Hehehe, yes it does really look like it maybe cos of the layers.

daphne - Huh really? You liked the pink? Some people hated it. Hubby too didn't like. I guess that's why he agreed to do this so quickly hahahha! Pasta for breakfast? ;) Oh gosh! Lucky the second batch didn't have any insects. The cups were used cos they are more convenient.
