Mummy's fun class

The only reason princess was sent to school today was so they could 'babysit' her for me. Haha. She hasn't been to school since last Friday as we've had many activities to occupy us. But I happily signed up for Phoon Huat's Christmas cupcake decor class as I chanced upon a poster on their outlet's door in Bencoolen when I was there on Sunday. I called them up the next day and after trying to get a class for all the evenings, I ended up with this morning's class as the former were all filled up. A quick call to mum and she agreed to pick princess after school. Hurray. Now is mummy's time for some fun!

Ahh... but it's only a cake decor class, so why did I have to go sign up for it? I mean, it's simple enough to do on my own, but I lack the confidence in trying out fondant, etc. And also, I'd get to learn to ice cakes and I thought it'd be a great opportunity to learn some things.

And I did. It was intimidating as the chef who was helping out at our table was a bit rushy, I guess due to time constraint. We were each given 12 cuppies with which we could 'paint' on. It's also my first time playing with fondant and it was kind of cute, although I'm not very creative. But I think given time, I should be able to make some things out of it. Haha.

The final result... the chef was very kind and made a special 3-in-1 colour icing and also made a white rose for me. Hehe.

The festive season is fast, fast approaching. So much to do, so little time.

Have just MADE little one go to nap as we have a birthday party this evening which will end late, and Daddy said, no more night parties if you don't nap in the day. Oh oh!

Just showing what I had for lunch today. Mum was so kind to pick me up from class after getting little one from school. A quick trip home to put the cuppies in the fridge and we went to have a super quick lunch.

Looks like the sunny weather is not lasting the entire day. It's getting dark again and I dread having to go to the party drenched. I'm going to boycott taxis as of Monday as the rates are going up again. The article in the papers said, 'the prices are comparable to HKG and are lower than in Sydney'. Some BIG consolation!! It's getting way too expensive to live in Singapore at this stage. Everything goes up except the salaries!

Busier than a bee

I've been busy, busy, busy. And will still be, at least till this Sunday. So cookie exchange friends, am sorry but only able to complete my cookie exchange next week when the weather is better (but of course it's nice and sunny today to bake what I'm planning to bake), except I've got NO time today to do it!

So, a roundup of the week's events. We've been doing the rounds at the malls. I have to be fair to little one as it was raining the past 2 weeks and my feet were far from alright (they still are a drag, literally, as I have to drag myself everywhere), plus I've been doing my own stuff in preparation for Christmas - shopping, wrapping presents etc. And we have missed out loads of mall shows as most of them have ended as of last Sunday 9th Dec, so I decided that since this week is dedicated to princess, we'd do fun things that she'd enjoy. I signed her up for 2 craft classes at United Square. One was a tee-shirt decor class which she attended with the godbrothers, and the second one was a tote bag decor class. Oops, we happened to be at Suntec City on Sunday and caught a glimpse of the Looney Tunes Show. Nothing fantastic. I still like the Barbie ones.

We tried out a spot of ice-skating on Tuesday at Central Mall. You just have to spend any amount and you get to have a free lesson. I knew she'd be excited about that. It's the first time she's tried it and I think she did a wonderful job. I wouldn't even be able to stand on those things, much less walk in them!

And yesterday, we finally met up with P & little S for lunch at Raffles City. It was for the Barbie show that I chose that location. I thought the two girls would enjoy it. We did not watch the movie prior to the 'live' show so we didn't know the story. But it turned out to be a really lovely Barbie show. We got the dvd and watched it promptly last night, and refused to go to bed even though it was past our bedtime and we had to go to school today. Sigh.

My new friend

For those waiting for the reveal of my guest in town, well, I shan't keep you in suspense, and besides I'm not one who writes fancy, haha. She is none other than the lovely blogger from Easts Meets West Kitchen. It was really lovely to meet her and her little girls yesterday. We got along from the word 'go', and she was every bit as I expected her to be - friendly, warm, sincere. Her kids were totally loveable, and princess got along very well with them. She loves to play with little girls and they were like 2 life dolls to her. She just wouldn't put them down, carrying them whenever she could. She sometimes forgets that she too, is still a little child. I had to constantly remind her that. It didn't help that she was going for some exercise workout afterwards. I told her she'd be knackered! And you bet she was. She's still asleep at this time - 9.30am, would you believe it??!!! That is totally unheard of in princess land.

I have only got a short time for this post before I'm out the door again this morning.

The updates on our outing will probably be done in East Meets West Kitchen when she is more settled and finds the time to. I didn't bother to take photos of the things we consumed at the food court but she being the 'tourist' had every right to. Hahaha.

The good news is she finally visited Daiso but it was a short in and out visit as her girls were getting restless from the jetlag etc.

I have to say I really admire this lady. I think she is amazing to travel this long a distance with a pair of twins and basically just managing everything on her own.

A happy day & a surprise guest

After school yesterday, I dropped princess off at a playdate and her friend's mum was really kind and invited me to lunch with them. I had a quick lunch and went off to meet D. She had brought back some goodies from HKG. Coincidentally, I've just read in Peony's blog that she too had gone on a shopping spree over in Japan. :)

Some of the stuff she picked up are duplicates which I already have, so am keen to sell them off. P has her eyes on some of these so will meet up with her next week to show them to her. And on top of that, there are many packets of Hello Kitty pasta which I need to help D get rid of as her little one does not like them. There is nothing wrong with the pasta. It's just that little A, according to her mum, is fussy about food.

But the thing that really has me excited is the chance to meet one of the popular bloggers here, as she is home on a short visit with her kids. Can't wait to see her today. We get along really well and she is a very nice, friendly person. Will tell you more after we meet. ;)

A Gloomy Day

It's not just the weather. I am feeling gloomy too, not in relation to it. Had a day all planned out but was ruined by some unexpected circumstance. Initially planned to go Ikea today to pick up some Christmas wrappers, etc, and had promised princess a fun time at the play area. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Felt bad that she had looked forward to it and I had to tell her we couldn't go. Her mind was set on it. So in the end, after a phone call to hubby, he offered to come home to take her out once he'd sorted out his work for today. So thankful to him as I wouldn't have had the energy to entertain her if she'd been home all day. She would have got on my nerves and I would have felt worse than I already am.

While waiting for his return, I needed something to eat as was hungry. It was already 11am, and I hadn't had anything for breakfast. The rain was falling and I couldn't make my way to the market to pick up any food. So decided to make blueberry muffins. It is very easy to make and I had bought some blueberries the other day as they were on offer. I've made them before but I think it is nicer this time round. I added some oats to the topping and it was delicious. When fresh out of the oven, they were crunchy on top. Yummy!

Apparently one muffin didn't satisfy my hunger pangs, so when hubby got back and they were out the door, I made a packet of instant noodles with some crabsticks and a poached egg. I love eggs done this way, runny on the inside. I am rather particular about that. If the egg accidentally breaks or becomes overcooked, it will spoil my entire meal. But this time it did not. :)

I had a nap and when I woke, hubby and princess were back and brought dinner. He picked up chicken rice from this shop in Vivo City called The Chicken Rice Shop. I've not tried it before and not sure if it's nice, but kind of a rip off price ($11 for 2 packets).

Hope to be in better spirits tomorrow.

Note : Verdict about chicken rice - I didn't enjoy it at all. I don't know if it was the sauce but it was too sweet, yes I mean the rice too. Awful. I like sweet food but this is over the top. Doesn't go at all well with chicken rice.

Donut Class

Yesterday, princess and her cousin Z attended a baking class for kids. They made donuts. How cute. The embarrassing thing is that her donuts tasted better than the ones I tried baking. Hahaha. It was fun for them and we mums wanted to occupy them during the hols with some activities, and basically let them spend some time together because we hardly meet up these days as they live far away from us, and school and everything gets in the way.

So while they were at class, we walked around Parkway and did some errands. And before long it was time to pick them up again. Oh gosh, the minute I stepped into the kitchen classroom, all I could see was sugar, chocolate, everything covering the floor. Eeew. But thankfully I had the good sense to bring a plastic container to put the donuts in as the containers given to them were all covered in chocolate and sprinkles and cinnamon sugar.

This morning, I have to babysit Z, whose mum has a medical appointment. He's been rather quiet all morning, but within an hour he was already bored of the tv, the kitchen playset, and I last left him drawing. Time to check on him now and get ready to go out. Ciao!
