I don't know if anyone received a message from a Michael Martinez who said we shouldn't continue the SEO tag? The message says that 'these blog spams are not good for anyone and that the person who started this has already been penalized by Google and so have other blogs that picked it up These spam posts are Not good SEO theory'. So in order not to jeopardize the fate of my blog, I have removed it.

I don't know why. So funny. Anyway, it makes no difference to me if I tag or not tag.
That seems a little odd. Your blog is your own personal space. The tag was in no way offensive... I have certainly seen worse things on other blogs.
A shame, really - you had to put work in to that, too!
I have been watching that blog spam meme make the rounds since September. I've written about it on SEO Theory but though the SEO Theory blog is popular, it's not THAT popular.
I finally decided to drop a few comments on the most recent participants in the meme because I did some random checks on blogs that started it (in August, if I recall correctly). Every blog I checked of about 5 (including the originator) had been penalied by Google.
That's not a good sign.
You don't need SEO theory to build a good blog. You just need to write about things that interest you. Your passion and your insight make your blog unique and valuable to other people.
Links come because people find what we say to be interesting. That's really all you need to know about search engine optimization if you don't want to become a specialist.
